Did you know autumn is the most popular season for property sales in Australia? Data from Corelogic, taken over a 30-year period from the average number of monthly sales, shows 27% of all transactions take place in March April and May.

It could be a combination of weather—cooler but still warm—and the fact that people spend the first few months of the year reflecting and reassessing their lives, that makes autumn the most active real estate season. Whatever the reasoning, autumn, it seems, is a great time to sell your property.

Top tips for an autumn sale

With that in mind we’ve put together our 5 top tips for preparing your property for an autumn sale.

In autumn there is traditionally a lot of buyer activity from the spring and summer sale season. Purchaser’s who have sold their homes are now looking to find their next one. This large, motivated supply of buyers means it is more likely that your home will sell quickly.

So what are you waiting for? Get the tools out of the garden shed and tidy up that yard. Paint your fence, fix your mailbox or plant some flowers in pretty tubs or flower beds to enhance your kerb appeal. An attractive home will appeal to a larger number of buyers. Enlist the kids to help you wash the windows, fix squeaky doors or mend blinds and curtains. Brighten up your home with a lick of paint, open the curtains or simply buy a floor lamp. A bright, light-filled home is far more pleasing than a dark one.
