Nestled between Burleigh Heads to the north, Currumbin to the South, Elanora to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east, the suburb of Palm Beach is approximately 6.2 square kilometres in size.
The beach itself is 4km of golden sand stretching from Currumbin Creek to Tallebudgera Creek and is patrolled by 3 surf lifesaving clubs.
The area features a number of parks and playgrounds like the popular Palm Beach Parklands with its grassed areas and Treasure Island playground which sits just back from the beach at the naturally occurring lagoon. Another playground popular with families is Laguna Park at Elizabeth Sloper Gardens featuring a beautiful lake, grassed areas and a large fenced children’s play area.
Shopping and entertainment
Palm Beach has been having a resurgence as a hotspot in recent years with trendy cafés, restaurants, bars and shops popping up throughout the area.
In addition to boutique shopping, there are a number of shopping centres housing the big supermarkets: Woolworths at 19th Avenue Shopping Centre and Coles on the corner of Gold Coast Highway and 4th Avenue. The Pines shopping Centre in neighbouring Elanora is home to a number of retail outlets and supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths and Aldi.
Brisbane CBD is 83km north of the suburb and easily accessible by the M1. Public transport relies entirely on buses, which link to heavy rail at Varsity Lakes. There are plans to extend light to the area. The Gold Coast airport is a 10-minute south, along the Gold Coast Highway.
All state schools in the area have defined catchment area, so where you live will affect which school your child is eligible to attend. Palm Beach is serviced by 3 state primary schools and 2 state high schools. The primary schools include Elanora State School on KP McGrath Drive, Palm Beach State School on Nineteenth Avenue and Currumbin State School on Philip Street. The 2 high schools are Palm Beach-Currumbin State High School on Thrower Drive and Elanora State High School on Nineteenth Avenue.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2016 Census community profile, the population of Palm Beach is 14,654. The median age of residents is 40, with 17.3% of the local population aged 65+, and 16.9% under 14.
